Visual LISP

The Language for Visual LISP (LISP) is developed by Autodesk and allows programmers to create user interface functions for their applications using a visual programming environment similar to Apple’s Interface Builder and Microsoft’s Visual Studio. LISP has been replaced with Visual Builder (or VCBuilder).

When AutoCAD became Autodesk in 2010, all the LISP code was removed from the AutoCAD source code. This removed the AutoCAD LISP scripting language as a viable alternative to Visual Builder.

The LISP language allows program logic to be built up visually using VBoxes and Blocks (visual objects). VBoxes are an LISP object that implements methods, properties and events. Blocks are an object-oriented programming (OOP) object in the LISP programming environment.

New users are encouraged to learn Visual Builder, a graphical programming language for creating user interface components in AutoCAD. Some visual script concepts, such as calling methods of objects, can still be executed in Visual Builder. AutoLISP is more than an “accelerator” for the language—it is a true programming language.

Visual Builder is available in the 2012 release of AutoCAD as an add-on.

Add-on apps
AutoCAD has an online application store for third-party add-on programs. More than 2,000 AutoCAD add-on programs are available at the Autodesk Exchange Apps website.

AutoCAD for Android
AutoCAD has a user interface for Android smartphones and tablets. It can read and display DXF files and can use the touch screen as a mouse. It is designed for use with a stylus, and can be used to change or annotate drawings using an application such as AutoCAD’s reference database AutoCAD Electrical Reference Database. In addition, all the files are automatically backed up to the cloud, giving a user an Internet-enabled mobile device that can be used anywhere.

Add a button in the Camera Assistant’s Panoramic Lens settings to force the lens correction from the X/Y pixel size to the original scale.

Added the ability to copy a drawing layer to the clipboard.

Added the ability to duplicate a drawing layer and add it to a current drawing without using the context menu.

Added the ability to modify many of the graphic styles for text in the Graphic Styles Manager.

Added options to the baseplate definition.

Added ability to view or edit drawings in their native scale.

Add a new option to the Block Select window to prevent drawing history updates.

Add a new option in the Block Select window to reset the drawing to a new baseplate.

Allow for automatic handling of the sketch layer boundary (layer switching) when importing images.

Add a new command (which deletes the layer boundary) to the Camera Assistant window.

Add a new command to the Camera Assistant (which does the opposite of the Edit Layer Boundaries command).

Add the ability to add lines to the image boundaries.

Fix camera assistant moving camera focus to the wrong location.

The Camera Assistant tool will no longer show “Focal Distortion Correction” in the lens correction section.

All available drawing layers will be listed in the last available camera assistant panel when no drawing layers are available.

In the Camera Assistant tool, the user’s effective camera calibration for the current view is saved when switching between views.
